IA DEVELOPMENT IDEAS
ARE YOU IN COMPLIANCE WITH IIA STANDARD 2210.A2?
When planning your future internal audits, keep in mind the requirements under IIA Standard 2210.A2 which reads "Internal auditors must consider the probability of significant errors, fraud, noncompliance, and other exposures when developing the engagement objectives".
Our interpretation of this standard is that internal auditors should consider fraud when planning an audit and incorporate procedures into their audit steps to address the risk of fraud. We believe that this must be a proactive effort building fraud into the audit plan, not simply adding procedures after the fact. This being said, as always, additional procedures must be considered throughout the audit based upon additional knowledge and information that usually comes to light.
It is our belief that this standard should be treated similarly to the external audit requirements under SAS99.
Pertrolance had developed a planning guide that will help you document your compliance with Standard 2210.A2.
If you have any questions about internal audit and fraud or the attached fraud planning guide, please give us a call.
